Courses on Vedas

A significant feature of mantras and hymns from the Vedas is that they can be fairly long. A popular mantra like ‘Oṃ namaḥ śivaya’ is in fact a tiny extract from one of the most powerful mantras to a fierce form of Shiva (Rudra) and called the Rudrapraśnaḥ from the Yajur Veda. This mantra is eleven paragraphs long!!

Other hymns are a collection of 8 to 12 or more mantras. They take time, effort and a consistent practice to learn. Some of the outcomes of continuous study through courses are:

  • Gain an insight into the knowledge hidden in the mystical poetry of the Vedas and how it applies to my daily life.
  • Learn the significance of the Vedas in my understanding and practice of Yoga.
  • Appreciate the rigour involved in the recitation of the Vedas and understand Vedic phonetics.
  • Develop my ability to concentrate.
  • Experience a sense of calm and equilibrium, like colouring in a mandala, but with breath and sound.
  • Develop my breath.
  • Develop discipline.

Some of the course themes:

Developing Will Power : The first 9 mantras from the Ṛg Veda give us a good understanding into the most important and powerful cosmic force – Agni, or Fire. This hymn allows us to recognise the fire in us, will power, and help its development. Highly inspiring and functional, this mantra can quickly become your daily morning practice. Learning the hymn involves a course of 3 classes. Once you have practiced and memorised, the practice takes less than 5 minutes, but with incredibly efficient and long-lasting benefits.

Mantras for Health & Well-Being: In learning mantras for health, we plant the seed to a healthy lifestyle and at the same time surrender to the knowledge that grace is an important element of staying healthy or recovering from illness. These mantras invoke the blessing of natural elements – the sun, moon, water, fire, earth, wind, space etc to nourish and support the different organs and functions of the human body. Some of the important mantras are Āyurmantraḥ, Laghunyāsaḥ and Suryanamaskāra mantraḥ.
