Mantra in Veda Chanting & Kirtan (with Shantala & Nina)
January 5, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Online: Mantra in Veda Chanting vs Kirtan
10AM NY | 4PM Brussels | 8.30PM India
1.5 hours session
Shantala and Nina Rao are honoured to contribute to this series of sessions which are part of these valuable ongoing course offerings by Satsangam. This is a live event and you can participate in Q&A as well.
The relationship between sound and devotion is ancient and profound.
Touching the divine through sound—through bells, drums, instruments of all sorts, and the human voice-—permeates spiritual traditions and practices the world over.
In the US, over the last 50 years or so, there has been one form or another of kirtan—devotional singing.
These days you may well have heard of or attended a kirtan session with Nina Rao or with Nina Rao and Krishna Das, when they offer this together.
It is a group experience that brings the participants into this living relationship of sound and devotion.
Meanwhile…tucked into a village in Belgium, but offering extraordinarily authentic and precise –yet accessible –online instruction into Vedic recitation, Shantala Sriramaiah is bringing students into relationship with sound and devotion through an ancient South Indian lineage, to which she belongs.
Satsangam LLC is fortunate indeed to have as advisors both Shantalaji and Nina ji and, in January’s Vedic Threads membership-based course, we are wildly fortunate to have their good company and experience as we explore the basics and differences between kirtan and Vedic recitation.
Among the things we might explore:
– What is the difference between kirtan and Vedic recitation?
– Can anyone practice them?
– Are they both considered mantra?
– What is the role of lineage?
– What if we don’t belong to a particular lineage?
We invite you to join us on Jan 5 at 10am ET (New York time) for what promises to be an epic conversation.
