Lalitā – divine names chanting (donation event)
April 9, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Introduction
Lalitā means the playful one. Her play consists in creation, sustenance and dissolution of the universe as also the lifting of devotees from Saṃsāra (the cycle of birth, life & death). She is therefore the Universal Spiritual Energy, one with the Supreme Being.
Goddess Lalitā is the embodiment of compassion and she is lovingly addressed as Śrī Mātā, or Supreme Mother. She is worshipped in many different ways such as through mantra meditation of her divine names to worship of Her subtle aspect – the Sri Chakra – the diagram formed by 9 interlocking triangles that radiate out from the centre (bindu). Worship of her Supreme aspect is through Her most celebrated Lalitāsahasranāma or One Thousand names of Lalitā.
Join us for this special event of chanting all 1000 sacred names of Lalitā in Stotra form or verses of praise for her beauty, grace and compassion. Reciting Lalita’s divine names is a process of inner transformation and a way of awakening Divine qualities within ourselves.
Donation
A donation of your choice will be welcome, 100% of which will go to Villa Indigo, a respite house for serious/terminally ill children.
Chanting level
This is not a teaching class, but a “pārāyaṇa” – which means a full chanting of the Lalitā Saharanāma. You will be repeating after the teacher. So you will listen once, and repeat with the help of the text provided. This process will take about 1h30 minutes. It can be challenging if you have never chanted before, but you are still welcome to join us and share this space and practice.
The tradition extols that reciting the Lalitā Saharanāma even once in one’s lifetime brings to us innumerable benefits.
